VEUVE CLICQUOT
Lots of Bubbly in Chicago
at Yelloween Extravaganza
By Roger
Webster
HAMPAGNE
Veuve Clicquot held its 17th annual roving Yelloween Extravaganza at
the famous 19th century Dewes Mansion in Chicago. It attracted more
than 400 elaborately costumed guests from the restaurant and wine
world. They had a blast in the eerily transformed four floors and
tented garden with special effects and a distinctly yellow glow.
There
were palm and tarot card readers, gambling tables, blini, oysters,
sushi and, of course, lots of bubbly.
Among
the restaurant royalty
taking a break from their kitchens were Charlie
Trotter of Charlie Trotter’s, Michael Foley of Printer’s Row, Michael
Taus of Zealous, Donnie Madia of Blackbird and Spiro
Baltas of Tavern on the Green.
Clicquot
president Mireille Guiliano and cellar master Jacques
Peters presented cases of Champagne Veuve Clicquot’s prestige
cuvée La Grande Dame 1993 as prizes for the best costumes.
Among
the lucky winners were Tom MacDonald of
Webster’s Wine Bar in Chicago, and Carly Johnston
and Barb Izzi of Tampa Bay, Florida.
