VIRGIN
Film
Finally Opens Up
After
Touring Festivals
By Edward T. Callaghan
HE
long awaited premiere of writer/director Deborah Kampmeier’s
debut film Virgin took place at Manhattan’s Village East
Cinema after a yearlong tour on the festival circuit scooping up
prizes from the Hamptons to L.A.
The provocative film scored Best Screenwriter
Award at the Hamptons International Film Festival and a Rising
Star Award for its lead Elisabeth Moss. As well, Virgin
was nominated for two prestigious Independent Spirit Awards.
Kampmeier and her Full Moon Productions
partner Raye Dowell welcomed the crowd at the door,
including the film’s stars, Sam Riley, Michael Grenham, Charles
Soccarides and Stephanie Gatchet of Guiding Light
fame.
Daphne Rubin Vega, who plays a
distraught abused housewife, arrived amidst a flurry of flashbulbs
as she proudly showed off her very, very pregnant silhouette.
Clearly, she’s forsaken her Virgin status and is looking
forward “to having this baby as fast as I can. I can’t wait to
hold him in my arms.”
Following the screening, some 200 VIPs
toddled up the street to the Union Square hot spot Plaid for an
evening of well deserved partying.
